March 29, 2005 FAA Mandate around the corner...

With the Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS) FAA mandate approaching, owners and operators of turbine-powered aircraft can find out more information by clicking on the following updated link:
http://www.faa.gov/avr/arm/6866.pdf

Below is a list of key guidlines to follow when selecting the TAWS solution for you aircraft:

* Class B installation do not require a terrain display. The use of panel mounted annunciators and aural warnings and alerts will meet the requirement for FAR Part 91 and Part 135 with 6-9 passenger seats (excluding any pilot seat).

*The Class A TAWS is mandatory for operation within European airspace, regardless of FAA requirements. Terrain display is required for all Class A installations.

*A wide variety of Weather Radar indicators have the ability to display Terrain, lowering the cost of additional equipment. The use of a relay or display switching unit is required in most applications.

*All TAWS Class A or B installations will require a FAA Field Approval (submit FAA Form 337 to FSDO) or Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation approval on all US registered aircraft. Current FAA workload, due to RVSM and TAWS implementation, has caused some delay in processing data approvals. Be prepared to wait on FAA acceptance of data used to modify your aircraft.

Is your aircraft RVSM compliant?

Recent statistics show that a large number of aircraft owners and operators have not complied with the January 20, 2005 FAA Mandate for Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums. In a related announcement, the FAA estimated that 44% of the affected aircraft or 3,900 aircraft had been made compliant leaving approximately 4,900 yet to be modified and tested.

This FAA approved ruling requires that all aircraft flying in the airspace between 29,000 ft and 41,000 feet must be equipped with specially certified high accuracy altitude measuring systems.

Our experienced staff, with excellent knowledge of the FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) process, can help provide a method of compliance with a variety of solutions for your aircraft.
